Because all I have left is my laptop and a body pillow to get me through the day...

So. Cute.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I returned to the concrete jungle (yes, I will shamelessly jump on that bandwagon of quoting that song) of New York City yesterday morning and was back in the familiarity of my unnaturally small abode shortly after noon. I returned to discover all of my siblings were at school and my parental units at work. I took advantage of this opportunity and promptly passed out for 5 hours. I swear, no matter how much sleep you get on a bus, it still feels like you haven't slept at all! One of life's many, many phenomena.

Whenever I am on the bus and realize I have entered New York, I get so jittery. I'm so close to home, I'm so close to home!!! I've walked these streets and those streets and ahhh so excited to be hoooooooome. Yeah, my thought processes are kind of a disaster. Anyway, as my bus rumbled down Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard, I watched the high school girl in front of me whip out her camera and start taking pictures of...oh, I don't know...everything. Really? Are the Projects that fascinating? And must you really take a picture of every Starbucks you see? I know you've seen one before. Why don't you just wait until you get off the bus?! It'll drop us off basically right into Times Square; you're going to want to save your memory for that! Don't get me wrong, I love New York and I am obsessed with taking pictures and all, but if you're going to freak out about anything here, it shouldn't be a corner store on 116th street.

Today is Thanksgiving. Every time Thanksgiving approaches, people ask me "what do you eat for Thanksgiving?!" You see, I am a vegetarian. But that's not all: my parents are vegan. Okay, really just my father, and he does all the grocery shopping so my home is filled with meatless, dairy-free glory. The weird thing is, people usually ask me this question before Thanksgiving break as opposed to after. Now, to answer this question I have to think back to almost a year prior and think about what I had for dinner that one night. Yeah, about that... I'm one of those people who can't even remember what she did two nights ago, let alone what she ate a year ago! I usually answer with, "a lot of food that takes a long time to prepare. But hopefully not Tofurkey because that stuff is gross."

I imagine Thanksgiving dinner at every vegan/vegetarian/pescetarian household is different, and every year is different at my home, but here it is... What I consumed today:
Breakfast: Scrambled tofu with toast. (Still weird to say that out loud.) Yeah, it's just tofu with seasoning. It's exciting; I used to have it at least once a week for breakfast back when I was a young whippersnapper.
Lunch: Salad. And fries. And white wine. My family keeps it classy.
Dinner: Soup, lasagna, and an attempted macaroni casserole.
Dessert: Apple-blueberry pie!!! Mmmm. Pie.

And it was all delicious. First time I've had three meals in a day in a very long time. Food...coma...

Once upon a time, I screwed up. And I guess I always assumed that because I have always been such an understanding and forgiving person, that if I ever messed up, I too would be forgiven. However, that day unfortunately came and that was not the case. Honestly, I gave my everything and everything was not enough. It is no wonder that the nicest people I know are often the saddest. What good is it, being nice to others, if no one is nice to you?

I am now on GoogleWave. I do not understand it yet, but someday I will. I hear GoogleWave is more fun with friends. So if you have it, let us be friends. My address is [my actual first name].[my last name]@googlewave. True story: some people I have been friends with for years have issues spelling both my real name and my last name. Yeah, I still love them though. :)

Finally, a real entry...

Until next time...
